Mercury Spacecraft 'Liberty Bell 7' £29.95 Grissom was blamed by some for blowing the escape hatch prematurely on Splashdown causing the loss of the capsule and very nearly his own life. Firing the hatch would have left bruising on his hand which was not found to be the case. To prove the point in October 1962 astronaut Wally Schirra stayed in his capsule until it was safely on the deck of the recovery ship and only then blew the hatch leaving him with a very bruised hand! Dragon's model features the painted crack on the capsule side as on the real Liberty Bell. It was the first Mercury Capsule to have the centerline Trapezoid shaped window in place of the ealier two porthole configuration.
